Fabric Selection: I chose light prints for background and an assortment of blacks & greens for the mediums and darks. Within my med/dks I added red for an accent. I varied the placement of black, green and red for the Star block. Red was jused for the centers of the log cabin.

Border fabric is a medium light. It should show up against the dark fabrics and be slightly darker than the lights. This fabric becomes the background for your applique.

I used hand-dyed wool for my applique, but cotton is fine too.
