Sievers School of Fiber Arts

Sievers Fiber Arts School is located on Washington Island, just off the tip of Door County, Wi. A car ferry brings you to this charming, picturesque island. You will stay in either the school's dorm or one of the island's motels, rentals or B&B's. Enjoy quilting in the studio, equipped with tables, irons and ironing boards, design walls and great lighting. Students typically work on the featured project that Judy offers, but again ...you are welcome to work on your own desired project. Being with other quilters and spending time on the island is purely magic!

MISSION POSSIBLE!

Your mission, should you decide to accept it, will be to design a quilt with a block that you will "draw out of the hat".    There will be at least four blocks offered so that more than one person will draw the same block.  This will give us a chance to see different interpretations of the same block, helping us see possibilities.

Once class begins, each person will draw their block.  We will then begin exercises in how to "map out" where to go....Beginning with diagramming the block, deciding what size to make the block, what size the quilt will be, how many strips to cut, etc.   You will learn how to make your own pattern for your one-of-a-kind quilt.   These are tools that will take you far in knowing how to make designing decisions, empowering you as a quilter.

Learn how to have fun creating a quilt of your very own design!

Below are five examples of quilts made with the Garden Maze block.  From baby quilt to lap quilt and tablerunner, your project can be any size you wish.

A detailed letter will be sent out in June.  You may come to just quilt on your own project and enjoy a retreat-like experience, but each participant should come prepared to at least create a pattern for a quilt, whether they work on it in class or not.
